What is Subscription SSL?
From 1 September 2020, the maximum maturity of a certificate will be 397 days; this means that certificates will not be issued with a lifetime of 2 years. The shortening of the maximum term also changes the time period within which you can renew your certificate to 30 days before it expires. Because there is a demand from the market for less management/administrative burden with regard to SSL, we introduce Subscription SSL. This allows you to purchase SSL for up to 6 years at once, whereby once a year only a technical operation ('refresh') needs to be executed.
Certificate annual refresh
Refreshing is very simple, it is actually a reissue where the new certificate has both a new start and end date. For a refresh, all you have to do is provide us with a CSR and go through the domain validation. Refreshing is possible from 30 days before the expiry date of the certificate.
Example: You purchase Subscription SSL with a term of 3 years on 1 September 2020. You will only be invoiced once and only need to go through the configuration once. As of August 1, 2021, you or a technical employee can request a refresh via website or API by providing us a new CSR. As soon as the domain validation is completed, you will receive a new certificate valid until 1 September 2022.
How does Subscription SSL work?
Subscription SSL is available for 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 years. If you order or renew a certificate from 1 September with a term of 2 years or more, you will immediately use Subscription SSL. This means that you purchase SSL for the selected period of time, with a refresh of the certificate once a year. See "Certificate annual refresh".
Pricing Subscription SSL
The 1 and 2 year prices remain the same, where traditional 2 years becomes a Subscription SSL from 27 August 2020. The prices for 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 year Subscriptions are available in your dashboard from 1 September. Of course with a longer term you will have a lower price per year.
Request new certificate
From 1 September 2020, you can request 1 to 6-year certificates both via the API and via your customer portal. The ordering process remains the same as you are used to. The cancellation period of 30 days also remains the same. Note: with Subscription SSL certificates, it only applies for the first 30 days after issuance at the start of the subscription. It does not apply after the refresh.
