ProFTPD
ProFTPD is an FTP server and can run on any PC and server. It is a highly configurable GPL-licensed FTP server software. ProFTPD is used by many large and well visited websites. The server works with many operating systems, including AIX, Linux, Digital Unix, SCO Unix, Mac OS X and SunOS. When this server was designed, the most commonly used server was wu-ftpd.
Although the wu-ftpd server performing well, it lacks numerous features. For this reason a new and better alternative has been designed. This server is based on Apache and is able to work on IPv6. ProFTPD is a very well known and stable FTP server and can be extended easily with modules. Modules have been written for SQL databases, LDAP servers, SSL / TLS encryption, etc.
