Generating a CSR for Novell NetMail

Before you generate your CSR, you will need the following information:

  • The fully qualified DNS name of your messaging server.
  • The Organization (O) and Organizational Unit (OU) your mail system belongs to. (These should not be confused with Organizations and Organizational Units in Novell eDirectory®.) Your CA might override these values or add additional tokens like country (C) or Locality (L).

To generate a CSR:

  1. In the WebAdmin task view, click Create Certificate.
  2. Select Request a New Certificate, then click Next.
  3. Complete the information in the requested fields, then click Next.
If you are using a public CA, this information is used to notify you when your certificate needs to be renewed.

    Bits:
The key size, in bits, for your certificate.
Higher key sizes are more secure, but take longer to generate.

    Requestor Name:
The person responsible for maintaining the server certificate.

    E-mail Address:
The contact address for the person maintaining the server certificate.

    strong>Common Name:
The fully qualified DNS name of your messaging server.

    strong>Organization:
The organization name assigned by the CA. You should use the exact legal name of your organization.
IMPORTANT:  Do not abbreviate because the CA uses this information when validating your certificate request.

    Department:
The organizational unit assigned by the CA. If the CA does not assign this name, use your own department name or leave this field blank.

    City, State/Province:
These items indicate your organization's location.

    Country:
The two-letter ISO abbreviation for your country. For example, NL or BE.
  4. Click Private Key to download and save your private key (osslpriv.pem) to a local directory.
IMPORTANT:  The private key is required to use the signed certificate you receive from the CA. If you lose the private key, the certificate is useless.
  5. Click Certificate Signing Request to download and save your CSR (osslcsr.pem) to a local directory.
  6. Send the CSR to networking4all by copying and pasting the entire content in the enrollment form.
