Installing a certificate on a RD Gateway server

Below you will find a manual for installing a SSL Certificate on a RD Gateway server. This manual is applicable to a Windows Server 2008.

1. On the RD Gateway server, you must first open the Remote Desktop Gateway Manager. Therefore, follow these steps: Start > Administrative Tools > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Gateway Manager.

2. In the console tree of Remote Desktop Gateway Manager, right-click the local RD Gateway server and then click the “Properties” button.

3. When you are in "Properties" click the tab SSL Certificate and select “Import a certificate on the RD Gateway <RD Gateway Server Name> Certificates (local computer)/personal store” where <RD Server Name> will be the name of the computer on which the RD Gateway server will be processed.

4. Click “Browse to certificate and import this”.

5. In the dialog screen Open now select the certificate you want, and then click Open.

6. Enter in the screen “Enter password for private key” in “Password for private key” the password for the certificate and click Ok.

7. You should now click Ok in the “Import Certificate” screen.

8. Finally, click Ok to close the “Properties” tab for the RD Gateway server.

If this is the first time you have assigned a SSL Certificate to a RD Gateway server, you can check whether the assignment was successful. For this, you have to check the Status of Remote Desktop--gatewayserver in the Remote Desktop Gateway Manager. The status will be shown in Configuration Status and Configuration Tasks.
