GlobalSign Adobe CDS to secure PDF files

Certified Document Services (CDS) is the first solution for digital signatures that allows authors to create Adobe® PDF files which the recipient automatically ensures that the identity of the author has been verified by a trusted organization.

Authors of PDF files add digital signatures to certify and approve files that are distributed over the Internet. The process is essentially the virtual counterpart of the sealing of a document and placing a signature in ink to ensure the recipient that the document is authentic and verified from a source and that the content is still the same since the document is published.

GlobalSign is an authorized participant in the program Certified Document Services (CDS) from Adobe and works with a set of strict rules and standards developed by Adobe and inspected by WebTrust. Therefore, GlobalSign may release CDS certificates, authorized by Adobe and also called digital IDs of DocumentSign, to individuals and departments of organizations. DocumentSign users can add digital signatures to PDF files by using a trusted model which is used in Adobe Reader 6.0+. Without new plug-ins need to be installed, the default settings of Adobe Reader/Acrobat need to be changed or confusing trust related decisions need to be made.

How does it work?

Certifying signatures
With DocumentSign from GlobalSign, PDF files can be certified by a person or department by adding a certifying signature. When the document is viewed, the recipient sees a prominent 'blue ribbon' in Adobe Reader above the document. Recipients can see the authenticity of the document and determine the authorship very fast. Before the document is certified, the signer can specify which types of changes are allowed without changing the status of the certifying signature. For example: changes are not allowed, just fill in the form or fill in the form and make remarks.

Approval signatures
With DocumentSign it is possible to add a number of signatures for approval to the PDF file, awarded by individuals or departments. When the document is viewed, the recipient sees a 'green checkmark' in the PDF file. Approval signatures show which people or departments have approved or accepted the content of the PDF.
