Anyone may register a ".nl" domain name, there are no restrictions.

- contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these.
- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.
- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).

Since January 2008 it's possible to register domain names, which are entirely made up of numbers (for example 1234.nl) or domain names, which are only containing numbers and a hyphen (for example 12-34.nl).

When an applicant wants to register an ".nl" domain name, the applicant has to accept a registration contract from the registry (SIDN). This contract is required in order to complete the domain registration.

The domain name may not violate the rights of third parties or the moral order, be against the law or be contrary to the public order or morality.

IPv6 is supported.

Every domain name has an authorization code. This code, consists a random series of characters, is used to validate a transfer request.

Removal procedure for .nl domain name holders
Start by asking your existing provider for your authorization code and give this to Networking4all, and ask us to arrange the transfer. Next, Networking4all sends a transfer request to SIDN and validates it with the code. In response, SIDN emails you to say that the transfer has been set up.

Duration of the move
The transfer goes through after a maximum of five days. In the five days after the transfer has been set up, Networking4all can cancel the transfer, or the old provider can approve it. If the old provider approves the transfer, it goes ahead straight away.

What if the current provider will not cooperate
If the current provider does not contribute to the transfer of a domain name or doesn't provide an authorization code means obstacle to free trade. SIDN doesn't support this stance and will always honored a transfer request of a domain by Networking4all. Of course if the requirements of the Rules of registration of the .nl domain names are fulfilled. If your current provider doesn't provide you the authorization code, please contact Networking4all.
