All Malaysian individuals and Malaysian organisations and all individuals and organisations residing in Malaysia may register a ".my" domain name directly under ".my". All individuals must proof that are residing in Malaysia, need to have a valid passport and must be over the age of 18. Organisations / companies have to provide proper documentation to prove their company status when applying. Besides this they need to provide documentation to prove that their company has presence in Malaysia.

Networking4all is able to register ".my", ".com.my", ".net.my", ".name.my" and ".org.my" domain names. For all these domain names apply the same restrictions. However, for the subdomains the purpose is different. This purpose is shown under the paragraph "subdomains".

- contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9), hyphens (-) and IDN supported characters, or a combination of these
- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.
- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).
If an organisation registers a domain name under ".com.my", ".net.my", ".org.my" and ".my", the domain name has to should closely match or best reflect your organisation's area of interest/activities. This is an attempt to avoid confusion in cyberspace. A few examples of a good domain name for an organisation are: the name of the organisation, the brand name, the product name, the trademarked name or the licensed name.

The domain names may not:
- contain country or state names or well-known names such as "Malaysia", "Malacca", "Johore", etc, or the Bahasa Malaysia equivalents such as "Melaka", "Johor", etc. These domain names may only be applied by the relevant State authority, or persons who have been duly authorised by the relevant State authority. All applications and/or letters of authorisation must originate from the State Secretary's (Setiausaha Kerajaan Negeri) Office of the relevant State.
- contain words in either English or Bahasa Malaysia, that are sensitive or vulgar to the main religions in Malaysia such as "Islam", "Buddha", "Hindu", "Christianity", etc.
- be directly or indirectly obscene, scandalous, indecent, offensive or contrary to Malaysian public norms.
- contain the words "bank" or "finance company" (or any derivative of the words in any language). Only parties who have the written consent of the Minister of Finance (MOF) pursuant to Section 15 of the Banking and Financial Institutions Act 1989 (BAFIA) may apply for these domain names.
- infringe upon the rights of third parties or violate any law of Malaysia. For example: the domain name may not infringe upon (Malaysian) trademarks or intellectual property.

In order to transfer the domain name to a new holder, the "old" registrant has to provide all the new information regarding the new registrant in the transfer domain name form. Then the "old" registrant receives a notification email within two working days from the registry. Next, the "old" registrant will receive an email from the registry that the domain name will be deleted. After 14 days from the date of the notification email the domain name will be deleted. If the domain name is deleted, the new registrant will receive a notification email and needs to supply the necessary documents within 14 days in order to register a ".my" domain.

Note that the above stated explanation apply for all domains, except for ".name.my". This domain name can not be transfered to another owner. This domain name can only be transferred if the domain name is registered on behalf of a minor by a major and if the minor turns 18 years old.
