Companies and organizations, which are resident and registered in Jordan may register a ".jo" domain name. However, the owner of the domain name (or it's representative, which must be authorized) must officially be registered and licensed upon the licensing procedures adopted in jordan.

Companies/Organizations outside Jordan can register domain names through a residing agent provided that he has a licensed active office and is authorized to represent the applying organization in Jordan. In this case, the owner of the domain name is the company/organization outside Jordan and not the representative office.

For several parties it's necessary to supply several documents:

Business Institutions and commercial companies .org.jo:
- A copy of the company's license from the Ministry Of Industry And Trade/companies control Department.
- A copy of certificate of the registration of trade name / commercial register.
- A copy of certificate of trademark registration in the case of identical domain name registration with the trademark.

Educational institutions,universities and schools:
- A copy of the company's license from the Ministry Of The Industry And Trade /companies control department.
- A copy of the certificate of trademark registration in the case of identical domain name registration with the trademark.
- A copy of the license of the institution from the Ministry Of Education or the Ministry Of Higher Education.
- A formal letter of request for domain registration for the governmental institutions.

Embassies & Diplomatic Corps:
Embassies and diplomatic corps have to contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Jordan and coordination with them to address the status of their request for registration of the .JO domain name with NITC.

Non-profit Institutions, organizations and bodies:
- A copy of the license of the Organization.
- A formal letter request for domain registration.

Government and military institutions:
- A formal letter of request for domain registration.

Individuals and personal names:
- A copy of the personal identity card.

Companies operating out of Jordan:
- A copy of the certificate of registration of the foreign company.

Authorized and official representative of the institution in Jordan.
- A copy of the certificate of trademark registration in the case of identical domain name registration with the trademark.

- contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these.
- contain IDN supported characters.
- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.
- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).
The domain name must reflect the whole name of the company/ organization or part of it, derived from it as a whole, or a trade mark owned by the company.

The domain name may not:
- be misleading or confusing for users of the internet.
- infringe on rights of third parties.
- conflict with another name, trade name, trade mark or service mark.
- be for any unlawful purpose or activities not permitted by the Jordanian Law.
- be registered to be resold again.

Registered active domain names must have an operational primary and secondary Domain Name System (DNS) server. Both need permanent IP connectivity to the Internet for queries and zone transfers to be easily checked for operational status and database accuracy at any time.
Transfer of a domain name to another holder should be confirmed by the original holder. The new holder must comply with the new DNS registration rules and the registry has the right to reject the registration if it didn’t fulfill the new registration requirements.

The new holder should submit a new application.
