Anyone may register a ".gm" domain name, there are no restrictions.
Any entity representing or servicing the local Internet community of Gambia may register a ".gm" domain name. Any entity owning or using a globally well-known or trademarked term online can protect this term, provided it is unambiguous and not offensive to the local Internet community. Natural persons can not protect their term.

- contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these.
- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.
- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).
Domains containing only numbers will not be delegated.
2-letter domains will only be delegated in special cases where an organisation has an internationally accepted 2-letter abbreviation)
Domains starting with a number will only be delegated in special cases under the name protection clause.

The GM-registry sells their domain names to registrars for a period from 1 January till 31 december only. This means that the registrar has to renew their domains every year at the 31st of December. Despite this, Networking4all has chosen to sell the domain names for "normal" years to registrants (for example: the registrant can register a domain name from 16 may 2011 till 16 may 2012, without having to renew it at the 31st of December).
