A domain name with the suffix ".fi" can be registered by any Finnish person, who is at least 15 years old. This person must have a Finnish Personal Identity Number and must be domiciled in Finland.

A domain name with the suffix ".fi" can also be requested by a company or a private entrepreneur, which is entered in the Finnish Trade Register, the Finnish Register of Associations or the Finnish Register of Foundations, a Finnish public corporation, state-owned company, independent public service, public association or the embassy of a foreign state may apply for a domain name.

Foreign associations and entrepreneurs may obtain a fi-domain name by registering a Finnish branch office in the trade register.
- contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these

- contain the native language characters used in Finland (for example: "ä", "å" and "ö").

- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.

- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).
A domain name with the suffix ".fi" can be registered for 1, 3 or 5 years.

the applicant is responsible for ensuring that the domain name is not illegally based on a name of a natural person.
the applicant is responsible for ensuring that the domain name is not based on the registered name or trademark of another party.

The domain name may not contain offensive terms or incitements to commit an offence, and domain names may not be applied for with the purpose of reserving them for resale.

It is not possible to apply for a domain name that is identical to an acronym for a company form (e.g. ltd), the word ‘tavaramerkki’ (trademark) or top-level global or national domains (e.g. com, net, org, fi, or dk).

IPv6 is supported.

This code is assigned by the registrar. Authorization Codes are the password for the domain and serve as an additional safety measure.
