Restrictions:
The ".com.de" domain is handled and controled by CentralNic instead of DENIC, who handles the ".de" domain.

Despite this, almost the same rules as a ".de" domain apply for the ".com.de" domain. However, there are some differences. The most in important one is dat everyone may register a ".com.de" domain, while this does not apply under the ".de" domain.

Phase 1: Sunrise (5 pm CEST June 20, 2011 – 5 pm CEST July 22, 2011)
This application phase is aimed exclusively at Applicants who can demonstrate to the Registry that they are the owners of a trademark* or a commercial firm name registered with a German Commercial Register (registered on or before 30 July 2010) that is identical with the desired domain name. The domain name must not have been excluded by the Registry. If there is more than one Applicant for a given domain name meeting the requirements of this policy, the allocation of the domain name will be determined by auction, with only those Applicants who are qualified under the present policy allowed to participate. During the Sunrise domain names may consist of keywords, city names and even one and two letter domains are available. Next, during the sunrise period, there are only characters allowed which occur in the standard Latin script. Next, the Applicant is entitled to delete conventional designations of a legal entity, e.g. S.A.S, Ltd., LLP and standard TLDs which may be included in a trademark. Finnaly, IDN is not supported during the Sunrise Phase.

*If the Applicant is seeking allocation of a domain name on the basis of a trademark right which is synonymous with a generic term, i.e. house.com.de for example, the Applicant must demonstrate that:
- the trademark right from which the generic domain name is derived is validly registered in at least five (5) different nations, and
- the trademark is actually used by the Applicant for the protected classes of goods and services in all nations in which the generic term is protected as a trademark.

Phase 2: Landrush (5 pm CEST July 25, 2011 – 5 pm CEST August 26, 2011)
The Landrush is open to anyone wishing to register a .COM.DE domain name, where that domain name was not previously registered or applied for during the Sunrise Process, or excluded by the Registry. If two or more Applicants submit an Application during this phase for an identical domain name, the allocation of the domain name will be determined by auction, with only those Applicants who are qualified under the present policy allowed to participate. During the Landrush domain names may consist of keywords, city names and even one and two letter domains are available.

Phase 3: .DE Registrant Promotion (5 pm CEST August 30, 2011 – 5 pm CEST September 23, 2011)
The .DE Registrant Promotion is open to all registrants of a .de domain, wishing to secure the same name under .com.de, where that Domain Name was not previously registered or applied for during the Sunrise or Landrush Processes, or excluded by the Registry. Only domains that exactly match the .de equivalent, and have the same registrant, will be registered in the Registry at the end of the period.

Phase 4: General Availability (from 5 pm CEST September 26, 2011)
.COM.DE domains will become available to anyone through participating registrars or their resellers. Except where registered or applied for during the Sunrise, Landrush period or .DE Registrant promotion, or excluded by the Registry, .COM.DE domains are available to the public based on the chronological order of registrations on a first come, first served basis.

- contain letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) and hyphens (-), or a combination of these.

- contain IDN supported characters. Here are a few listed from the in total 93:
à, á, â, ã, ä, å, æ, ç, è, é, ê, ë, ì, í, î, ï, ñ, ò, ó, ô, õ, ö, ø, š, ù, ú, û, ü, ý, ÿ, ž.

- start and end with an alphanumeric character, not a dash.

- do not contain a dash on the 3rd and 4th position (tagged domains).
In order to register a .de domain name, the administrative contact person should live in Germany.

Attention! Private individuals or companies who don't have an administrative contact person in Germany can rely on our contact person. This is only for the administrative contact person, so you will be the full owner of the domain name. In other words: any company, organisation or private individual can register a .de domain name and register their company name, product or trade mark in Germany.

In Germany, almost no-one opts for a .com domain name and 90% of the Germans own a .de domain. This means that German people who are browsing the internet, looking for a site or product, will not easily enter a .com domain or any other extension. So if you want to conquer the German market, it might be interesting to register one or more .de domain names.

Furthermore, the .de extension is the second largest extension worldwide (n° 1 is the .com domain extension).

Nameservers
Please take into account that the German Registry formulated strict rules concerning the use of personal name servers for .de domain names. Therefore, nameservers have to be located in a different subnet and the SOA-values have to be measured in following bandwith:
- refresh 10000 - 86400
- retry: 1800 - 28800
- expire: 604800 - 3600000
- ttl: 180 - 345600
You can of course use the default Networking4all name servers.

IPv6 is supported.
At least four parties are involved in a Provider Change. They are the DENIC member who has been administering the domain to date (old provider), Networking4all B.V., the DENIC member who is to take over its administration in future, the domain holder and DENIC. If either the provider to date and/or the future provider are not DENIC members, then they will also be involved in the process (in addition to the member they work with).

You, the domain holder start the provider-change process by telling your old or current provider that you want a new provider (Networking4all B.V.) to administer your domain in the future. The next step is for Networking4all to send a Provider Change application to DENIC. Before submitting any such application, Networking4all has a duty to make sure that the change was really initiated by the bona-fide domain holder.

Next, DENIC sends the Provider Change to the member who has been in charge of the domain to date with a request for confirmation. This member checks whether he/she has received any information about the domain holder wanting to change. If so, he/she sends an ACK (acknowledged) to DENIC confirming the domain holder's wish to change providers. If not, he/she rejects the Provider Change with a NACK (not acknowledged).

You will see that this process includes two separate checks to make sure that a domain is not transferred from one provider to another as a result of a misunderstanding. Both the DENIC members involved have a duty to perform these checks with care.

If the DENIC member who had been in charge of the domain to date does not reply within three working days, DENIC sends him/her the same question again in the form of a REMINDER. If there is still no reaction, DENIC deems the member releasing the domain to have acknowledged the correctness of the first check as carried out by the future provider. At this stage, the Provider Change will be completed and the entries in DENIC’s database will be correspondingly updated. After seven days at the latest (according to current practice) the Provider Change will have been completed even in such a case. The procedure just described has been deliberately set up like this to ensure that requests for provider changes can be dealt with quickly.

It can happen that the DENIC member releasing the domain doesn’t yet know that the domain holder wants a change at the time he/she receives the request to acknowledge the Provider Change from DENIC. In such instances, the member answers as a precaution with a NACK. As soon as the domain holder’s wish to change reaches the member, it is still possible to send an acknowledgement to DENIC. This is known as a LATEACK, and three months are allowed for this to take place. A LATEACK does not need the formal Provider Change process to be initiated again by the member taking over administration of the domain.
