| Flag explanation: |
The local flag of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon is blue with a yellow ship, said to be the Grande Hermine, which brought Jacques Cartier to Saint-Pierre on 15 June 1536. Three square fields placed along the hoist recall the origin of most inhabitants of the islands, from top to bottom, Basques, Bretons, and Normans.
The top left flag is the Basque flag, as mentioned above, and is known as the "Ikurriña".
This unofficial flag was likely designed by André Paturel, a local business owner who adapted the crest designed by one Léon Joner. |

The Territorial Collectivity of Saint Pierre and Miquelon (French: Collectivité territoriale de Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon) is a group of small islands in the North Atlantic Ocean — the main ones being Saint Pierre and Miquelon — 25 km off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.
The islands are part of France and the European Union but due to special immigration procedures, EU nationals who are not French citizens are not allowed to exercise free movement and business establishment in the archipelago.
The archipelago is the only remnant of the former colonial territory of New France that remains under French control. |
