You can apply for a .cat domain if you belong to the Catalan cultural and linguistic community in the Internet. .CAT is a sponsored domain and domain name applications require validation by the .CAT Registry.

• Universities, schools, research institutions and other academic
entities that use Catalan in their academic activities or teach/promote
aspects of Catalan culture
• public or private entities whose aim is promoting the Catalan culture
• writers, translators, correctors and journalists publishing (or
contributing to) works in Catalan
• publishing companies that publish works in the Catalan language or
relating to the Catalan culture
• media using the Catalan language for their communications
• individuals, groups, businesses, organizations, entities or initiatives, however constituted,
carrying online communications in Catalan
• individual sg, roups ,businesse so, rganization se,ntitie sor initiative however constituted,
proving their belonging to the Community by way of sponsorship from other members of the Community
in the form established in the Registration Policies
• members of Fundació puntCAT

The .cat TLD is intended to serve the needs of the Catalan Linguistic and
Cultural Community on the Internet. That is, those who use the Catalan language for their online communications, and/or promote the different aspects of Catalan culture online.

Who can apply for a .cat domain name?
You need to belong to the Catalan linguistic and cultural community in the Internet. You can belog to it if you:

- already have contents in Catalan published online.
- you could benefit of Sunrise's phases 1 or 3 validation codes.
- you have access to an special code (sometimes called ENS)
- issued during special promotions or by agreements with certain institutions.
- you develop activities (in any language) to promote the Catalan culture and language.
- or you are endorsed (sponsored mail) by 3 people that or 1 institution already using a .cat domain name.

The registry is open for everybody since April 23rd 2006.
